Washington DC
Washington DC, the capital of the United States is named after the first President of the US, George Washington. It is located on the banks of the river Potomac and is surrounded by the states of Virginia on the one side and the state of Maryland on the other. The city was founded in the year 1790. Today, it has evolved into a fascinating and lively city, which is popular for its neoclassical government buildings, memorials, museums, monuments, having multicolored neighborhoods, theater art, culture and music. It is also a very important center for higher learning, the important centers being the University of the District of Columbia, Gergetown University and George Washington University.
